Formatting and Designing Articles
for Ezines and Newsletters
When submitting articles to other ezines or using them in your
own ezines, make sure that you format it properly. Otherwise the
text may bleed and appear as one single block.
Understanding Ezines and Newsletters
Most ezines send out their newsletters and publications in text
format. Even though it is more than possible to send out newsletters
in HTML, some webmasters still prefer plain old text, due to its
simplicity and suitability with all types of email clients and
email programs. While HTML may appear differently in different
email clients, text is pretty much standard.
Rule of Thumb
Common email marketing wisdom states that when sending messages
via email, you will need to make extra sure that the line breaks
in your text is properly formatted. When editing your text use
these simple steps:
1) No more than 60 characters per line. Use
a string of numbers as a guide (see below)
2)
Each line must end with a "hard return".
Use a simple text editor like NotePad and disable Word Wrap (make
sure the Word Wrap is not checked).
3) At the end of each line you need to hit "Enter"
so that it starts on a new line.
4) Keep each paragraph to a maximum of 5 lines. Anything more
than that and your article would look too chunky.
Test Your Article
Here you have a simple tool to format and test your article.
Do not remove the numbers, as they are there to guide you (60
characters in width). Hit enter when you reach the end of those
numbers.
